How much is your time worth?

We all know how precious our time is to us but have you ever placed a dollar value on yours? If you did, what would it be – $50 an hour? $100 an hour? I’ve heard of people valuing their time at over $2,500 an hour – now that’s what I call treasuring your personal time!

Imagine you value your time at $100 an hour. Then imagine how easy it is to throw that $100 down the drain when you spend 20 minutes “on hold” trying to contact your internet provider over an account query; then 30 mins trying to find another baby-sitter after yours calls in sick. Wasting precious time can be very costly… and we’re not just talking dollars now. Common time-wasters such as wading through piles of paperwork to find an unpaid bill; looking for the name of the company who serviced your car last year; and even just getting transfixed to the TV after work can prevent you from focusing on the important stuff in your life and in turn cause stress and anxiety.

Going through the exercise of placing a dollar value on your time will certainly help you determine what you are willing – or not willing – to spend time on. And don’t sell yourself short. Establish how much your time is worth to you and use that value to make better decisions on how to spend it.
